The Guedel Airway is designed to ensure free airflow by protecting against airway obstruction caused by tongue relaxation in unconscious patients. Guedel Airway devices feature a central cavity that allows for the insertion of various suction catheters.
The upper section features a color-coded compartment for quick size identification, as well as a thicker area for bite protection. This bite block is ideal for seizures and unprotected airways. It is also beneficial for patients with intubated breathing, as it prevents them from crushing the tracheal tube.
Various sizes are available, from newborns to adults. Choosing the correct size is important; the Guedel airway size is the length between the corner of the mouth and the earlobe. It is inserted into the patient's mouth upwards while holding the tongue, and rotated as it is inserted so that it points downwards.
